At 828 Real Estate, our Free Little Pantry initiative, located across from our office in downtown Boone, North Carolina, is a testament to our commitment to helping those in need. Our community.

The Free Little Pantry offers a discreet way to share nonperishable food items and essential hygiene products, such as toothbrushes, toilet paper, and toothpaste, with community members facing hardship. Our motto is simple: “Take what you need and share what you can.”

At 828 Real Estate, we ask that donations be non-perishable items (e.g. canned vegetables and meats, dry goods, baby food, and bottled beverages) that are within their expiration date. We greatly appreciate your contributions! Donate here

Our how and why:

The concept of creating a free mini pantry had been circulating in our office, prompting me to take the lead in building it. I enlisted the help of my neighbor, Jody, whose skills and tools were invaluable in the process. Using recycled wood from my coworker Corrinne and several leftover pieces from Jody’s garage, we created a beautiful pantry that represents our dedication to community involvement and positive impact.Screenshot 2024 02 01 at 105726 AM The Little Free Food Pantry in Downtown Boone

About Free Little Pantries:

The origin of mini food pantries is somewhat elusive, but Jessica McClard started the Little Free Pantry movement in May 2016 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in FayettevilleArkansas. McClard aimed to raise awareness about local food insecurity while also fostering a space for neighbors to support each other’s food needs without judgment. It’s important to note that Little Free Pantry is not a nonprofit, but rather a grassroots community movement.
