Fall has always been a unique favorite for locals (and tourists) in North Carolina's High Country. Maybe it's because we are the first to feel when the summer breezes turn into cool fall air or, because of our elevation, we see the leaves begin to “burn” across the mountain peaks.

Either way, there's only a small window to enjoy the peak of leaf season, so you should plan accordingly! As local experts, here's a guide to witnessing fall foliage in Boone, North Carolina, even when it's peak leaf season.

“Peak” leaf season in Boone, North Carolina is when you'll be able to capture the full range of fall colors in and around the mountains. By 2024, the peak of leaf season in Boone, North Carolina, is expected to be the third week of October.

The vibrancy of the trees is spectacular, from warm yellows and spicy oranges to deep reds. Our area typically sees the peak of this colorful flood a few weeks after the fall equinox, and then flows into the Piedmont and flatter areas of North Carolina.

It is the best time to feel the magnificence of Autumn. Unfortunately, the peak will only last 1-2 weeks in our area as winds and rains tend to strip leaves from trees.
